Department of Defense Education Activity Renews contract with Horizon Software Systems, Inc.
April 2006 - After five successful years using EXCENT®, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) has decided to renew the contract with Horizon Software Systems for another five years. Beta testing of the EXCENT ONLINE for DoDEA begins today.
For the past five years, special educators at DoDEA schools worldwide have been successfully using EXCENT® to manage special education data. Since November 2005, Horizon Software Systems has worked closely with the DoDEA administration to develop the next-generation of the EXCENT application for DoDEA and to prepare to implement this new web-based version, EXCENT ONLINE®. Initial installation and application training begin March 14, followed by beta testing through the end of the month. Three pilot sites will begin using the EXCENT ONLINE® in April. With the beginning of the 2006 — 2007 school year, EXCENT ONLINE® will serve special needs students in DoDEA's 200+ public schools in 15 districts located in 13 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
EXCENT ONLINE®, a web-based application built on Microsoft .NET, assists special education teachers, clinicians, and administrators in developing Individual Education Plans, monitoring the students' progress, and collecting data for reporting and compliance monitoring. The software is designed to reduce paperwork involved with managing special education students' records and will help to ensure that legal procedural requirements are met.
